Every year on June 14, Russia celebrates a professional holiday - the Day of the Migration Service Worker, established by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 701 of June 4, 2007.
In 1992, by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation, the Federal Migration Service (FMS) of Russia was established, which at the end of 1999 was transformed into the Ministry for Federation Affairs, National and Migration Policy of the Russian Federation. The Ministry was formed on the basis of the Service and the former Ministry of Nationalities at the end of 2001.
On February 23, 2002, by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation “On Improving State Administration in the Field of Migration Policy”, the functions of immigration control and coordination of actions of federal executive authorities of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation on migration issues were assigned to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
