The Constitution Day of the Republic of Belarus is a public holiday that is celebrated annually in the country on March 15, according to the Decree of the President of the Republic of March 26, 1998 No. 157.
The first Constitution of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Belarus (SSRB) was adopted at the First Congress of Soviets of Belarus on February 3, 1919. Its content was permeated with the idea of the dictatorship of the proletariat, which was directly enshrined in the Constitution. Later, it changed several times.
On July 27, 1990, the Declaration of the Supreme Council "On the State Sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus" was adopted. The Declaration proclaimed "the full state sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus as the supremacy, independence and completeness of the state power of the republic within its territory, the validity of its laws, the independence of the republic in external relations."
