Independence Day of the Republic of Peru (28/07)

The most important holiday in Peru is Independence Day, celebrated on July 28 in honor of the country's declaration of independence from the Spanish Empire on July 28, 1821.

The celebrations continue for two days: July 28 — in honor of the independence of Peru, which was proclaimed the liberator of Peru — by General José de San Martín, and July 29 — in honor of the army and national police of Peru.

The celebration begins at dawn with the raising of the flag and cannon salvos. Then comes the moment of the President's traditional celebratory address in Congress to his people. In addition to the festive greeting, the main part of the speech is occupied by good news, about which the president informs the people.

The next part of the celebration is the — parade. Civil and military delegations — air force, army, navy, schools, public organizations and civilian population — all take part in the parade.

After which the festive mood and events spread through the city streets. An integral part of the holiday are various fairs, so beloved by Peruvians, exhibitions, street festivals with the participation of dancers, singers and musicians.

At the end of the holiday — July 29 — everyone enjoys the second day off. Families spend this weekend indulging in their favorite activities and entertainment, many going on short trips around the country.
