Pentecost in Armenia (05/06)

Pentecost — is an important Christian holiday celebrated on the 50th day after Easter in memory of the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles and dedicated to the glorification of the Holy Trinity.

The period from Easter to the Day of the Descent of the Holy Spirit lasts 50 days and is called Pentecoste, which translated from Greek means «50 days». Initially, Pentecost was one of the main holidays of the Jewish people and was established in memory of God’s granting of law to His people.

Christians borrowed the celebration of Pentecost, since at the same time, but already in the year of the ascension of Christ, the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles took place.

One day, when they were waiting for the «Comforter» promised by Christ, « suddenly there was a noise from the sky, as if from a rushing strong wind, and filled the entire house where they were. And dividing tongues appeared to them, as if fiery, and they rested one on each of them. And all the Holy Spirit was filled and began to speak in other languages, just as the Spirit gave them to conduct ».
