In Panama, Mother's Day, which is celebrated on December 8, — is one of the main and important holidays of the year. On this occasion, many people are not at their workplaces, but at home, with their families, and are preparing a real holiday for their mothers, surrounding them with warmth, care and love.

On this day, everything revolves around mothers, and, nevertheless, the traditions of celebrating this day very much depend on each specific family. But one thing remains unchanged — this day brings only joyful emotions, because its main goal is — to pay tribute to mother — to the most important person on earth.

Many people on this day are concerned about how and thanks to whom this holiday appeared. However, there is no clear opinion on this matter; there are many versions telling how this day was first celebrated. In different cultures, in different countries, Mother's Day is celebrated at different times. Depending on the culture and country, Mother's Day is celebrated in accordance with local customs. There is a fairly widespread belief that the traditions of Mother's Day go back to the times of Ancient Greece. It was there that the custom was to worship the mother as a goddess.

In Panama, this holiday also has a long tradition, it is dedicated to the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary (which the Catholic Church celebrates on December 8) and has been a national holiday in the country since 1930.

Today, for Mother's Day, Panamanians traditionally buy gifts, call mothers, send them telegrams and messages if they cannot congratulate them in person, or go to the cemetery to honor the memory of their mother if she is no longer there... Also, many prepare a festive lunch or dinner for their mothers, go with their mothers to concerts or on a short trip.

Some cities in Panama have another interesting tradition dedicated to Mother's Day, — fashion shows in which mothers act as models. They showcase new outfits, accessories and jewelry.

And, of course, on Mother’s Day, grandmothers are also congratulated —, because they are also mothers, and also godmothers.

Let us remind you that in Russia Mother's Day is celebrated on the last Sunday of November, and in many European countries, the USA, Canada, China and Japan — is celebrated on the second Sunday of May.
