National Day of Colored Women in the United States (01/03)

On March 1, the United States celebrates National Women of Color Day. It was installed by the American National Institute for Women of Color (NIWC) in 1986.

The main task of this — institute is to create a community of indigenous women in Africa, India, Alaska, Asia, Spain, Latin America and the Pacific Islands, solve their problems, hold international conferences, develop strategies to protect the rights of women of color, cooperate and recognize each other’s cultures.

After the Institute was renamed the International Association of Colored Women, the national holiday also automatically acquired the status of «international». True, it is hardly celebrated outside the United States.

But in the United States itself, to hold some event dedicated to this holiday on March 1, — is the sacred duty of any women's organization, especially if its members are African-American, Spanish-American, Asian, representatives of numerous Indian nationalities of the Americas or even more numerous nationalities of Oceania.

Among the most popular — conferences, exhibitions, charity concerts, shows, competitions, flash mobs. And on this day, special literature explaining the rights of women of color is especially popularized en masse.
