Madonna della Salute in Italy (21/11)

Madonna della Salute in Italy (Festa della Madonna della Salute) — holiday of the Virgin Mary della Salute, which is held in memory of the liberation from the plague of 1630-1631.

Italians remember this day and celebrate November 21 every year. The main celebrations in honor of Madonna della Salute take place in Venice. A temple is dedicated to Madonna, rising on the banks of the large canal of Venice, which was built precisely in memory of deliverance from the plague. Its construction began in 1631 and lasted more than half a century — until 1681. By the way, the central altar of the temple is decorated with marble statues specifically on the theme of the miraculous deliverance of the city from the plague by the Virgin Mary.

On this day, Venetians visit the Temple of Santa Maria della Salute, to the entrance of which they build a temporary bridge of boats (or pontoon bridge) across the Grand Canal. A solemn mass is celebrated in the temple, and on the street, on the shelves of tents, all kinds of souvenirs and sweets are sold.

Castradina — is a very tasty lamb meat dish, which, according to tradition, is prepared especially for this holiday.
