Day of the Armed Forces of Abkhazia (11/10)

On October 11, 1992, Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Abkhazia Vladislav Ardzinba signed a Decree on the creation of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff. This date is officially considered the Day of Creation of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Abkhazia — as the birthday of the Abkhaz army.

The decree on the creation of the Armed Forces of Abkhazia was signed at the height of the Patriotic War. The armed forces of Abkhazia were created in combat conditions, in conditions of a real brutal war, a war for the independence of the republic.

A powerful and modern army, even today — is the main guarantee of the existence of an independent Abkhaz state. That is why the Abkhaz army is distinguished by its high combat effectiveness —, after all, the fate of the nation and the entire state depended and depends on it.

The armed forces of Abkhazia are subordinate to the Ministry of Defense of Abkhazia and consist of central government bodies, ground forces, air force and naval forces.

Over the course of its almost twenty-year history, the Armed Forces of Abkhazia have had a share in several wars: the South Ossetian War of 1991—1992, the Georgian-Abkhaz War, the Six-Day Abkhaz War, the conflict in the Kodori Gorge in 2001, the operation in the Kodori Gorge in 2008, in the Civil War in Syria.

Currently, in order to increase the efficiency of the Armed Forces of Abkhazia, the main attention is paid not only to equipping them with modern weapons, but also to recruiting experienced professional personnel.

In recent years, the intensity and quality of combat training of military personnel has noticeably increased, and the material and technical base is being improved and strengthened. Soldiers of the Armed Forces of Abkhazia are improving their combat skills and training. Tactical and tactical-special exercises, command post and mobilization training are systematically carried out.
