Grandmother's Day in the Republic of Moldova (24/09)

Grandmother's Day (Ziua bunicii) in the Republic of Moldova was established by Government Decree № 1014 of September 12, 2007 and is celebrated annually on the last Saturday of September.

This document also states: «Ministries and other bodies of central and local public administration, together with non-governmental organizations, ensure the organization and holding of events within the framework of the holiday «Grandma’s Day».

The holiday was established on the initiative of the country's First Lady Taisiya Voronina. The Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child also took the initiative to introduce a new holiday. Grandmother's Day is established as a sign of respect and gratitude from society for the efforts made by grandmothers in raising the younger generation, ensuring continuity in the preservation of traditions and national values.

The establishment of the holiday is designed to help strengthen family and national values. Now in Moldova you can meet grandmothers raising orphans, or grandmothers who left their jobs to take care of their grandchildren.

On Grandmother's Day, various cultural events are held in all settlements of the Republic. In Chisinau, usually at the Palace of the Republic, a cultural and artistic program dedicated to this holiday is presented to the attention of the assembled grandmothers.

All guests of special events are especially pleased that grandmothers — are not only listeners of fun and kind concerts. Grandmother artists themselves participate in all musical numbers, showing that they can do everything — and bake placinds and pies, and take care of their grandchildren, as well as sing, dance and have great fun.
