World Contraception Day (26/09)

On September 26, 2007, World Contraception Day (WCD) was celebrated for the first time by a number of organizations involved in reproductive health and family planning, and has been held annually since then.

World Contraception Day — is a long-term campaign aimed at all women and men of reproductive age. Its goal is — to reduce the high level of unplanned pregnancies (hence — and abortions), and its main motto is: «Contraception: It's Your Life, it's your responsibility», which translated into Russian means: «Contraception: this is your life, this is your responsibility».

Currently, there is a great need to expand knowledge on contraception among young people aged 15–25 years. It is important to provide them with the necessary information during this age period, since their sexual and reproductive behavior can leave an imprint on the rest of their lives. It is also necessary to attract more attention from the authorities and the public to the problems that arise due to insufficient sex education of young people and neglect of contraception.

Statistics say that about 80 million women worldwide have unplanned pregnancies and almost 2 million of them decide to have an abortion. An incorrectly performed operation or complications after it end in the death of almost 70 thousand women around the world.

Awareness of contraception and reproductive health will avoid unplanned pregnancies, abortions and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Pregnancies in adolescence pose a particular problem, when a girl, as a rule, is not yet physically or mentally ready to become a mother.

Therefore, the initiating organizations of World Contraception Day profess the principle — that every pregnancy should be desired, and direct their efforts to maximize public awareness of methods and methods of contraception, and to give young people the opportunity to independently make informed decisions on issues of sexual and reproductive health.

On this day, various events are held around the world that are directly related to World Contraception Day — - educational events in educational institutions, charity concerts, opening of thematic portals, conferences, etc.
