Mother's Day in Thailand (12/08)

On August 12, celebrations are held in Thailand in honor of Mother's Day. This is an important national holiday for the entire Thai people, it was timed to coincide with the birthday of Queen Sirikit, the wife of King Rama IX.

Queen Sirikit was born on August 12, 1932 in Thailand, into a family of princes. Her father was a prominent Thai diplomat in France, where a young girl met the Crown Prince of Thailand.

She ascended the throne after becoming engaged to King — Bhumibol Adulyadej (1927 - 2016), the ninth monarch of the Chakri dynasty, in 1946. Together with her husband, she actively worked for the benefit of the nation, actively participating in the political and social life of the country.

Throughout the country, in honor of Mother's Day, streets are decorated, blue flags with the symbols of the royal house are hung. Concerts, sports and cultural events, and charity events are held throughout the country.

On this day, it is customary to give women souvenirs decorated with a jasmine flower, since jasmine is the queen’s flower.
