Day of Defenders of the Motherland in Uzbekistan (14/01)

Defenders of the Motherland Day is celebrated in independent Uzbekistan in honor of the creation of its own Armed Forces after the collapse of the USSR. The holiday itself is set for January 14 by decision of the Supreme Council of the Republic, adopted on December 29, 1993.

On January 14, 1992, the Parliament of Uzbekistan decided to transfer all units and formations, military educational institutions and other military formations stationed in the country under the jurisdiction of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This was the beginning of the creation of the country's own Armed Forces.

Although on this day all men of Uzbekistan are congratulated, because initially every man — is, first of all, a defender of his Motherland. But especially warm and solemn words are addressed to military personnel, for whom this day is a professional holiday.

Defenders of the Motherland Day — is a big public holiday. According to established tradition, this date is celebrated widely in Uzbekistan — the anthem of the Republic of Uzbekistan is played on the capital's Independence Square, and military units march across the square to the sounds of a military orchestra.

Parade participants also lay wreaths at the foot of the Independence Monument, and, of course, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces delivers a festive greeting addressed to the defenders of the Motherland.

Also on this day in Uzbekistan they honor the memory of fellow countryman — of one of the greatest conquerors, commander Timur Tamerlan.
