Beer Day in Iceland (01/03)

On March 1, Iceland celebrates Beer Day (Bjórdagurinn). The most important thing is that on this day — you should drink it exactly as much as you can accommodate.

The date of the celebration is not at all accidental — on this day the adoption of the law on strong beer, which has been in force in Iceland since 1989, is celebrated. This act repealed the « prohibition law», which had been in force in the country for 75 years.

Beer Day is celebrated in all bars and restaurants. In addition, there is a beer festival, especially active participants in which — students drink a foamy drink in the noisiest zucchini in Reykjavik, but anyone can join.

Zucchini is open until the morning, and it’s just a matter of having something to pay for, since beer prices in Iceland, frankly speaking, are quite high. To be even more precise, — prices are among the highest in the world.

Yes, however, you don’t have to sit in a pub all first day of March; you can take part in a variety of holiday programs, from snowmobile racing to creating snow sculptures from snow.
