Russian Paperless Day (27/10)

«Let's learn to use paper rationally!» — this is the main thesis of the international « paperless» campaign, which takes place annually in the fall around the world.

Traditionally, it was held every fourth Thursday in October, but in 2015 a number of countries moved the date of celebration to early November. In Russia, Paperless Day has retained its tradition and is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of October.

On this day, leading companies from different areas of the economy unite to share their personal experience in reducing irrational paper consumption and hold their own support campaigns.

The goal of World Paper Free Day — is to show through real examples how and with what technologies each organization can contribute to the conservation of natural resources, and to attract the attention of companies and people around the world to modern paperless technologies.

The uniqueness of the action is that it benefits not only nature, but also business. The use of electronic document management technologies and optimization of business processes in companies allow organizations to gradually reduce costs for printing, storing and transporting paper.

At the same time, according to the Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM), saving or recycling a ton of paper allows «saving» 17 trees, 26,000 liters of water, 3 cubic meters of land, 240 liters of fuel and 4000 kWh electricity. In addition, according to AIIM, 45% of paper documents are thrown away within 24 hours of their creation.

Trends in global paper consumption suggest that collective action is needed to draw attention to the problem. Over the past 20 years, paper consumption has increased by about 26%. And the volume of deforestation today is several times greater than the volume of its natural restoration.

It is obvious that a complete abandonment of paper documents is unattainable and unnecessary. But by mastering modern technologies in the field of IT and information management, it is possible to achieve a significant contribution to saving resources, both at the company and state levels, and in the practice of each individual person.

International Paperless Day — is a great opportunity to share your experience in using paperless technologies and tell others how you can make your daily contribution to environmental protection for the benefit of business and life.

In order to support International Paperless Day, companies only need to talk about their experience to partners, clients, employees through their own information resources, the media, and the official group of Paperless Day on social networks. Anyone can also support the action by talking about their personal example through social means of communication using the hashtag #DayWithout Paper.

In Russia, the organizer of this holiday-action is the DOCFLOW Information and Analytical Project, whose participants invite all caring people and companies to take part in the Day’s events.
