Birthday of Princess Martha Louise in Norway (22/09)

As in other Scandinavian monarchies, Norway celebrates the birthdays of members of the royal family. These days are called flag days (holidays and memorable dates in honor of which the national flag is raised in places established by law).

On September 22, Norway celebrates the birthday of Princess Märtha Louise (September 22, 1971), the eldest daughter of King Harald V of Norway and Queen Sonya.

Martha Louise was the first child in the family of Crown Prince Harald and his consort Princess Sonja (later King Harald V and Queen Sonja). On 1 February 2002, she voluntarily forfeited her title, thus freeing herself from the need to perform representative functions and forfeiting royal privileges and possessions.

In exchange for this, she got the opportunity to do business and earn a living on her own. The corresponding decree was signed by King Harald, who fully approved of his daughter’s choice. The princess received her first income for filming a children's program that aired on a Norwegian state television channel.

She is also actively involved in charity work and writes books for children.

Martha Louise was married to Norwegian writer Ari Behn, to whom she became engaged in December 2001. Three daughters were born in this marriage.
