Labor Thanksgiving Day in Japan (23/11)

On November 23, Japan celebrates the national holiday — Labor Gratitude Day (Japanese). ⁇ の日). On this day, workers in all industries, farmers, employees of government agencies and companies receive a legal day off.

Under the name Labor Gratitude Day, the holiday was established in 1948, and historically the day was called «New Harvest Festival» and was founded as a traditional holiday for the completion of agricultural work.

Currently, the holiday unites all types of work activities. The holiday is based on the veneration of labor: the Japanese thank each other for the all possible assistance they have contributed to the development of society.

On this day, many places also host the festival of agricultural workers — Nogyosai, established in 1962. Peasants bring particles of the New Year's harvest to all small local as well as large temples — rice, vegetables, and freshly prepared sake.

On the days of the holiday, usually a week before November 23, exhibitions of agricultural products, machines, implements, fertilizers, chemical plant protection products and other items necessary for agricultural production, as well as exhibitions of new literature on scientific and technical achievements in this area. The winners of such exhibitions are awarded the — Imperial and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Prizes.
