Day of ordering gifts and writing letters to Santa Claus (04/12)

December 4 marks an interesting and special holiday dedicated to the upcoming New Year, — Day of ordering gifts and writing letters to Santa Claus. It is dedicated to everyone who believes in this winter wizard and is looking forward to the wonderful holiday — New Year.

Usually, on December 4, in many countries around the world, post offices begin to provide services for sending letters to Santa Claus, or special postal institutions open, where all children and their parents can send letters wishing for a long-awaited gift, which will definitely be delivered to the gray-haired miracle worker.

The date for the holiday was chosen quite logically. The New Year is coming soon, everyone is in anticipation of miracles and celebrations, gifts and surprises, preparations for the holiday are underway everywhere, Christmas trees are decorated, holiday lights come on... And it’s time to make cherished wishes and write a letter to the main wizard — Santa Claus. In addition, this period of time is enough for the letters to reach their addressee.

Every year, according to statistics, only Russian Father Frost receives several million letters and emails from children from all over Russia and the CIS countries. By the way, in the residence of Father Frost, which is located in Veliky Ustyug, there is even a separate building for storing children’s letters that came here. Letters to Santa Claus are written not only by children, but also by adults, because it is never too late to believe in a fairy tale... Some begin to write their messages without waiting for today’s date; the first letters to Veliky Ustyug arrive in November.

Regardless of who wrote the letter and when, Santa Claus treats all messages very carefully. Fairytale Mail (these are the winter wizard's assistants) responds to all letters, the main thing is that the exact return address is indicated. According to their observations, every year the children’s wishes and requests for gifts become more and more impossible to fulfill. Compared to the last century, when children asked for a doll, bicycle, jeans or animal, today their needs have increased noticeably. Many people dream of getting a computer, iPhone, moped, roller skates, airplane... Some even indicate the store address in the letter. There are also unusual requests — so, they ask for a high-paying job for parents, a good groom for their sister, to find a dad or mom…

Santa Claus has different names in each country, and his prototypes were completely different « characters». Thus, historians claim that the prototype of Santa Claus was a very real person — Archbishop Nicholas, who lived in the 4th century in the Turkish city of Mira and did many good deeds during his life, so after his death he was declared a saint. Over time, Saint Nicholas « transformed» into a good old man who fulfills good wishes and gives gifts to children. And since the day of his memory among Western Christians falls on December 6, it has become associated with Christmas and the New Year. It is believed that Santa Claus lives beyond the Arctic Circle in Lapland, which since 1984 has been officially proclaimed «Land of Santa Claus» by a UN decision.

The Russian winter wizard's name is Santa Claus. He has been present in the folklore of the Eastern Slavs since ancient times under the names Treskun, Morozko, Studenets and was considered the king of all winter months, the spirit of cold. Previously, in villages on the eve of Christmas, it was practiced «feeding», or cajoling. The eldest man in the family came out onto the threshold with a spoonful of jelly and « treated Treskun to it.

On New Year's Eve, we all become children for a while, believing in miracles and fairy tales. So why not write a letter to Santa Claus telling him about your dream? And even more so, involve children in this process. After all, for them, Santa Claus — is a fairy tale that becomes reality, and in childhood, magic is simply necessary, as is faith in Santa Claus. This is what psychologists say.

In their opinion, the longer a little man believes in Santa Claus, the better, this is how firm confidence is formed in the subconscious: miracles are possible. In adulthood, faith in the miracle — is one of the very important protective mechanisms of the human psyche. In addition, people who believe in miracles grow up sociable, open and self-confident.

Therefore, writing a letter to Santa Claus should be approached very responsibly. This process will not only help you find out what gift your baby wants to receive for the New Year, but will also require your child to show all his creativity and imagination. The main thing is not to interfere with the writing process, even if the child makes mistakes. The value of such a letter — is an appeal to Santa Claus without intermediaries. If your child is still small and cannot write, help him. For example, the desired gift can be drawn or an application can be made. Let the baby put the letter or picture into the envelope himself and throw it into the mailbox.

We remind you of the address of the residence of the Russian Father Frost: 162390, Russia, Vologda region, Veliky Ustyug, the house of Father Frost (or email address: info@pochta-dm.ru).

Often in the addressee’s line there is an inscription with a child’s hand: « to Santa Claus, personally ». But the post office knows perfectly well where to send it, and it still reaches the recipient.
