World Brain Day (22/07)

In recent years, more and more often, all kinds of federations and associations of medical specialists of a certain profile, in an effort to increase the attention of people and government health authorities to human health issues, have established days dedicated to the health of a particular human organ or organ system.

It was for this purpose that the World Federation of Neurology established World Brain Day and decided to celebrate it annually on July 22.

It is no secret that the brain is the main organ of the human central nervous system. Despite the progress of medicine, scientific discoveries have been made in this area, including in the field of brain research, the human nervous system remains an area whose research continues to this day. It is the brain and the multiple aspects associated with its work that continue to be a mystery.

The brain consumes 20% of all oxygen and energy from the body, which comes to it through blood vessels. Brain cells require a lot of energy, so without an adequate supply of oxygen and energy to the tissues of the central nervous system, various neurological diseases and brain dysfunction develop. 73% of the human brain consists of water. An hour and a half of active sweating reduces the brain in volume in the same way as one year of aging. It is necessary to reduce the required volume of fluid by only 2% in order for attention and memory impairments to develop.

The human brain can store about 2.5 million gigabytes of information. But simply accessing information makes it more difficult to remember, so the more work it takes to get information, the better we remember it.

The brain is actually a command structure, thanks to which all human organs work. Any malfunction of the brain instantly affects a person’s vitality, leading to disturbances in the functioning of any organ. The most advanced electronic machines created by man are essentially an attempt to get closer to human intelligence, concentrated specifically in the brain. However, none of them is incomparable in complexity and perfection to the human brain.

Diseases of the human nervous system, including brain diseases, have severe consequences for humans, which are sometimes difficult to predict. As a result of these diseases, a person may experience suffering, nervous experiences, become disabled, lose his ability to work, and even die. Yes, a lot has been studied, but a lot remains behind the veil of secrecy for medical scientists. That is why neurologists attach such great importance to brain health by developing a system for preventing the studied diseases and possible injuries. By systematizing existing knowledge, relying on scientific discoveries, using advanced technologies in the field of medical equipment and pharmacology, specialists exchange experiences and strive to find the most effective ways to diagnose and treat brain diseases.

Every year, the World Federation of Neurology, created back in 1957, organizes events dedicated to World Brain Day. Leading neurologists, operating neurosurgeons, scientists, neurologists and neurologists meet at these forums, conferences and conventions. Consecration of discoveries in the brain over the past year, exchange of experience and development of new methods of treatment and prevention of diseases – main agenda items for such events.

Every year, the Federation determines the theme for next year, which will prevail at all events.

At the level of the health care system of various states, educational activities are carried out among the population through visual information through posters, booklets and seminars.

General recommendations of doctors for maintaining brain health are a healthy lifestyle, giving up bad habits, healthy sleep, healthy eating, walking, walking in the fresh air or physical training, constant «training» of the brain through solving non-standard problems, searching for solutions, communicating with highly intelligent people, mental activity (reading, solving crosswords, puzzles, etc.).
