Day of the State Flag of the Republic of Tajikistan (24/11)

National Flag Day is celebrated in the Republic of Tajikistan on November 24. This official public holiday was established by Decree of the President of the Republic in 2009, in honor of the official approval of the country's flag on November 24, 1992.

The flag of Tajikistan is a rectangular panel of three horizontal stripes of different widths (2:3:2) in red, white and green. In the center of the panel, on a white (middle) stripe, there is a stylized golden crown, framed on top by a semicircle of seven golden five-pointed stars. The ratio of the width of the flag to its length is 1:2.

The semantic interpretation (explanation) of the meaning of the colors on the flag goes back to the ancient history of the Tajik people. By the way, the flag of the Tajik SSR, approved in 1953, had the same color scheme (red, white and green). These colors symbolize the class structure of ancient Iranian society, where red was the color of military nobility, valor, nobility, white – was the color of the clergy and a symbol of spiritual purity and holiness, and green – was the color of free people, a symbol of nature, life and prosperity. The alternative interpretation of flowers is similar: freedom and independence (red), peace (white) and prosperity (green).

The stylized gold crown, crowned with a semicircle of seven gold five-pointed stars, is an element of the state emblem of the Republic of Tajikistan and symbolizes state sovereignty and independence. Explanation of the significance of the seven stars also varied. Initially, the stars symbolized seven outstanding poets from the history of the Persian-Tajik people. Today these stars represent seven historical and cultural regions of Tajikistan.

Traditionally, National Flag Day is celebrated in Tajikistan with festive events: demonstrations, concerts, folk festivals and sports competitions, bicycle and motorcycle rallies. State flags are hung on houses, streets, avenues and squares of cities and villages.

In 2011, a 165-meter-high flagpole was installed in the center of Dushanbe, on which the State Flag of the Republic measuring 60 by 30 meters flutters. This flagpole was included in the Guinness Book of Records in 2011 as the tallest in the world, and the flag flying on it became the pride of the Tajik people.
