Fortune telling day on coffee grounds (01/11)

If you love fortune telling and are a coffee lover, today you have a chance to celebrate an interesting holiday – November 1st is celebrated as Fortune Telling Day.

It is not known for certain who initiated this holiday and when, but the interest of many people in esotericism and various fortune-telling (jokingly or seriously) gave rise to such a holiday. Moreover, finding out fate, thanks to small grains of – coffee, is very interesting; you can make it at home yourself and without much expense.

So, fortune telling on coffee grounds – is one of the most common manifestations of everyday occultism – is fortune telling, the meaning of which is to study the shape of the coffee grounds remaining in the cup after the coffee is drunk.

Scientists believe that this method of fortune telling and predicting the future appeared in the East, when the sultans used the services of the corresponding sages, and it is at least seven centuries old. There is also information that Peruvians also used a similar method of fortune telling. In Europe, this ritual appeared in the 16th century in England, and then spread to other European countries. However, the Italians also challenge the championship, since fortune telling on coffee grounds was known back in the times of the Roman Empire.

In Russia, coffee as a drink gained fame under Peter I, and fortune telling by coffee grounds became popular at the court of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna. Although such an activity was available only to the noble circle, since coffee was then a very expensive commodity. By the way, many manuals were subsequently published in Russian (including the «Encyclopedia of fortune telling on coffee grounds») and reference books for interpreting coffee patterns. But it should also be noted that in the Russian language the expression « fortune telling on coffee grounds» is often used to refer to unbased forecasts.

Be that as it may, today coffee fortune telling is common in many countries and communities, because coffee has become available to everyone. The main thing is to know a few rules: you need to take ground coffee, and not instant or granular, good clean water, turk, a cup with a saucer and, of course, supplement everything with a drop of adventurism in order to be ready to find out the future.

Coffee for fortune telling is prepared in oriental (or Turkish) – by boiling ground coffee beans in a Turk so that the grounds then fall into the cup. And when enjoying a drink, it is important to think about what worries and interests you. It is believed that in this way your energy affects the symbols and signs formed in the coffee cup. The procedure for fortune telling on coffee grounds, as a rule, consists of knocking over a cup of coffee grounds covered with a saucer, left after finishing the coffee, and interpreting the pattern that appeared during such an action. Therefore, it is better to take a cup without drawings or ornaments.

The day of fortune telling on coffee grounds is not a holiday in the generally accepted sense. This is more a tribute to tradition and the need to predict fate. Many people believe in the veracity of the ritual, while others consider it entertainment. Anyway, this is another reason to enjoy drinking a cup of your favorite drink and think about the future…
