Day of the National Guard of the Republic of Kazakhstan (10/01)

On January 10, employees and soldiers of the National Guard of the Republic of Kazakhstan celebrate their professional holiday (kaz. Kazakhstan Republikasynyn Ulttyk Ulany).

This military formation in the law enforcement system of Kazakhstan dates back to the beginning of the period of independence of the Republic, when the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan were formed on January 10, 1992. This date was taken as the starting point for the holiday.

In 2014, the President of the country N. Nazarbayev, by his Decree of April 21, transformed the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs into the National Guard of the Republic of Kazakhstan, part of the unified system of internal affairs bodies of the Republic. On January 10, 2015, Law «O of the National Guard» was issued, defining and consolidating its legal status. Thus, the date January 10 again became significant for the National Guard of Kazakhstan.

The National Guard of Kazakhstan was created on the basis of units of the Internal Troops of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs stationed on the territory of the Kazakh SSR. The traditions, vast experience and principles of that structure were carefully preserved by veterans of the internal troops and further multiplied, taking into account the specifics of the already independent Kazakhstan.

The National Guard soldiers face a wide range of tasks, the fulfillment of which determines the well-being and quiet life of citizens, guarantees of respect for the rule of law throughout the country, and protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens from attacks by criminal elements.

The tasks of the National Guard include ensuring the security of state facilities, special cargo, maintaining public order, ensuring the security of mass and state events, protecting institutions of the penal system, escorting convicts and persons in custody, and suppressing internal armed conflicts.

National Guard units are involved in counter-terrorism operations, eliminating the consequences of natural and man-made disasters. In wartime conditions, National Guard troops carry out combat missions together with the country's Armed Forces. This list only partially reflects the full breadth of tasks and responsibilities borne by the command and military personnel of the National Guard units.

The Commander-in-Chief of the National Guard of the Republic of Kazakhstan is appointed and dismissed by the President of the country. The officers are staffed by graduates of the special educational institution – of the Academy of the National Guard of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

A gala concert with the participation of the National Guard Song and Dance Ensemble, national folklore creative groups, and pop stars is traditionally timed to coincide with the holiday. Congratulations to the employees come from the lips of the President of the country, Commander-in-Chief of the National Guard. Often, the presentation of state and departmental awards and insignia, and the awarding of regular military ranks are timed to coincide with the celebration.
