Mother Teresa's Beatification Day (19/10)

Beatification Day (English beatification — beatification, first stage of canonization) of the Catholic ascetic Mother Teresa of Calcutta — October 19 — is celebrated in Albania as a national holiday.

Today, most Albanians consider her the most outstanding representative of their people. Tirana International Airport and the largest hospital in the Albanian capital bear the name of Mother Teresa.

Although Mother Teresa came from a family of Christian Albanians living in neighboring Macedonia, the people of Albania show the most respectful and piitic attitude towards her.

In 1964, Mother Teresa received the Jawaharlal Nehru Prize, two years later the — Vatican Peace Prize, and became a Nobel laureate in 1979. She donated the entire Nobel Prize (800 thousand Swedish kronor) for the construction of shelters for the poor.

In 2003, Mother Teresa was canonized by the Catholic Church, and on September 4, 2016, — was canonized.
