Chemist's Day — is a professional holiday for workers in the chemical and petrochemical industries, which dates back to Soviet times and is celebrated on the last Sunday of May.

Chemist's Day was established by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated October 1, 1980 №3018-X «On holidays and memorable days». After the collapse of the USSR, the tradition of celebrating it on the last Sunday of May remained not only in Russia, but also in a number of other countries in the post-Soviet space.

Among the main heavy industries, the chemical complex includes the chemical and petrochemical industries, which in turn are divided into many industries and industries.

The products of the chemical industry are also diverse: this includes the production of acids, alkalis, mineral fertilizers, this includes the production of a variety of polymer materials, dyes, household chemicals, varnishes and paints, as well as rubber-asbestos, photochemical and chemical-pharmaceutical products.

It is chemists who women are grateful for their active participation in the creation of unusual and economical washing powders, new series of cosmetics and durable tights. It is to chemists that men are grateful for the creation of new varieties of automobile oils, new fabrics for sportswear and shoes.

The professional holiday celebrated today is one of not only the most famous and noisy events, but also has many traditions that each generation not only preserves, but also multiplies. For example, every year Chemist's Day is held under the symbol of a new element of the periodic table, and the very first holiday was assigned the number 1 — hydrogen.

Chemist's Day — is a holiday that unites professionals, students, graduate students, teachers, and graduates of all generations. This day is always celebrated brightly and cheerfully. Graduates of chemical faculties are invariably in demand in science, industry, and business.

Interestingly, on January 31, another holiday is unofficially celebrated, associated with the name of the great D.I. Mendeleev. And by decision of the UN, 2019 was declared the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements.
