Srila Prabhupada's birthday (01/09)

Srila Prabhupada's birthday, celebrated on September 1, is a holiday dedicated to the birth of the Light Personality, His Divine Grace Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who, ardently desiring to fulfill the order of his spiritual master, first organized the International Religious Movement, which has grown across all continents. It was Prabhupada who for the first time in history widely disseminated the teachings of the founder of Gaudiya Vaishnavism Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and introduced the world to bhakti yoga.

Abhay Charanaravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (September 1, 1896 - November 14, 1977) was a Hindu Vaishnava religious leader; author, translator and commentator of Hindu scriptures, founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.

The movement organized by him gave rise to the spread of Hinduism (Vedic knowledge and culture) throughout the world. Today, the movement has hundreds of thousands of followers, numerous temples and centers around the world.

American disciples gave Bhaktivedanta Swami the honorific title of Srila Prabhupada, the name by which he is best known today. And in India, he is considered a saint, streets in many Indian cities are named after him, as well as various institutions: schools, hospitals, charitable foundations. Many Indians consider Prabhupada the spiritual ambassador of his country, who made the ancient message of the Vedas available to the whole world.
