Grandma's Day in Poland (21/01)

Every year on January 21, Poland celebrates a very good holiday. Young and adult grandchildren congratulate their grandmothers on their «professional» day — Grandma's Day (Dzień Babci), which dates back to 1964.

The creation of the grandmother's holiday was facilitated by the women's weekly Kobieta I Życie, the idea took root, and the date became more and more popular every year.

An opinion poll conducted on Grandma's Day found that 60% of Poles believe that their moral principles, religious beliefs and feelings were raised in close relationship with their grandmother.

Also, in the process of a study conducted by Professor Harald Euler among two thousand respondents aged 16 to 80 years, it became obvious that the majority of respondents consider their relationship with their grandmother to be very strong and stable.

On this day, all grandmothers are given flowers and gifts, and they always come to visit them. Grandmothers happily greet their grandchildren and treat them to sweet pies.

Although most grandmothers see their grandchildren at least once a week, and a third of them devote more than half of their free time to them, they still look forward to «grandmother's day», when all their children and grandchildren get together.

The day following Grandmother's Day is also expected in Poland with impatience — January 22 is Grandfather's Day.
