Celebration in honor of the discovery of the relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov (01/08)

At the beginning of the last century, a new bright candle caught fire on the candlehouse of the Russian Orthodox Church. In 1903, 70 years after his death, the glorification of the great prayer book, ascetic and miracle worker St. Seraphim of Sarov took place — he was canonized. (July 19) On August 1, the day of remembrance of the saint, his relics were revealed with great triumph and placed in cooked cancer. The long-awaited event was accompanied by many miraculous healings of the sick who arrived in Sarov in large numbers.

Revered very widely during his lifetime, St. Seraphim became one of the most beloved saints of the Orthodox Russian people, as did St. Sergius of Radonezh.

The spiritual path of St. Seraphim is marked by the great modesty inherent in Russian saints. Since childhood, chosen by God, an ascetic without hesitation or doubt ascends from strength to strength in his desire for spiritual perfection.

Eight years of obedient labor and eight years of temple service in the rank of hierodeacon and hieromonk, desert living and pandemonium, closure and silence replace each other and are crowned with eldership. Exploits far beyond natural human capabilities (for example, prayer on a stone for a thousand days and nights) harmoniously and simply enter the life of the saint.
