Day of Land Surveyor of Ukraine (12/03)

Professional holiday — Land surveyor's day (Ukrainian. Land Steward's Day) — has been celebrated in Ukraine annually since 2000 on the second Saturday of March.

The date was established by Decree of the President of Ukraine № 1556/99 of December 11, 1999 «On Land Surveyor's Day» in support of the initiative of the State Committee of Ukraine on Land Resources and the Union of Land Surveyors of Ukraine and in the light of the implementation of land reforms for the rational use and conservation of land resources.

The development of society at all times has been associated with the land, which still remains the main means for the existence of humanity and a source of social wealth. In Ukraine, there is a State Land Cadastre, which serves as an instrument of the state in influencing the process of rational use and protection of land resources.

The main goal of land management is to ensure the protection of land resources, the creation of a favorable environmental environment and the formation of a rational system for the use of land as a means of production and the basis for the resettlement of people and the creation of production infrastructure.

In addition to the Land Cadastre, Ukraine has a number of laws regulating land management — «On land management», «On the delimitation of state and municipal property», as well as relevant legal acts. Article 5 of the Law «On Land Management» calls land management objects — this is the territory of Ukraine; territories of administrative-territorial entities or their parts; territories of land ownership and land use or individual land plots.

In Ukraine, the profession of land surveyor has always been respected, because it is dedicated to the priceless treasure of the country — to its land. Land managers ensure that land is used rationally and efficiently. Their professionalism determines how economically the land is used and in what condition it will be transferred to descendants.
