Day of Water Workers of Ukraine (05/06)

Professional holiday of everyone who is in one way or another connected with the water resources of Ukraine — Day of Water Workers (Ukrainian. The Day of the Arts of Water Government, which is celebrated in the country annually on the first Sunday of June, — is established by Decree of the President of Ukraine № 226/2003 of March 18, 2003.

The water economy of Ukraine is closely connected with all sectors of the national economy and influences the development and deployment of productive forces. It is crucial in ensuring the necessary social and living conditions for the population.

All functions that are related to the regulation of water resources, their conservation, use and disposal of used water, as well as the prevention of the destructive effects of waters, are closely intertwined.

According to long-term observations, the potential water resources of river waters amount to 209.8 cubic meters. kilometers, of which 25% is formed within Ukraine, the rest comes from the Russian Federation, Belarus, Romania. Water resources available for widespread use are formed mainly in the basins of the Dnieper, Dniester, Seversky Donets, Southern and Western Bug, as well as small rivers of the Azov region and Black Sea region.

Elimination of uneven division of water resources in Ukraine is carried out using 1,160 reservoirs with a total volume of almost 55 cubic meters. km, more than 28 thousand ponds, 7 large canals.

The Ukrainian water industry operates group and local water pipelines with a total length of more than 3,400 kilometers.

The total area of land in Ukraine that needs irrigation is 15 million hectares, and 2.5 million hectares are irrigated, which is 7% of the total farmland area. An important water management problem is the protection of areas that are at risk of floods and flooding.

Traditionally, on Water Workers Day, the leadership of Ukraine and senior officials of the country congratulate workers in this industry on their professional holiday.
