Journalist Day in Ukraine (06/06)

Every year on June 6, Ukraine celebrates Journalist Day (Ukrainian). Magazine Day). This professional holiday for media workers was established by Decree of the President of Ukraine № 251/94 of May 25, 1994 in honor of the admission of the Union of Journalists of Ukraine in 1992 to the International Federation of Journalists.

The Union of Journalists of Ukraine was created on April 23, 1959 and during the era of the USSR was a branch of the Union of Journalists of the USSR. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and Ukraine gained independence, the Union of Journalists of Ukraine began to be called the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (National Spilka of Ukrainian Journalists).

Journalist's Day – is not only a professional holiday for media workers – journalists, correspondents and reporters. This, one might say, is a national holiday, because it is difficult to imagine modern society without information, without means of transmitting it, without a professional view of events and facts of life.

Free press and media pluralism – indicator of a free, pluralistic and open society.

Unfortunately, in recent years, an alarming situation has developed in Ukraine when the ability of journalists to do their work is limited by the authorities, thereby undermining the right of society to receive reliable information.
