Kashchei-chernobog Day (30/11)

On this day, the most evil deity of the Slavic pantheon is honored — known to us from children's fairy tales, Kashchei or Chernobog (black Snake, Koschey) — Lord of Navi, Darkness and the Pekel Kingdom. God of cold, destruction, death, evil; God of madness and the embodiment of all that is bad and black.

The Slavs divide the whole world into two halves: good and evil or friendly and hostile to man. Each of them is personified by its own god. The hostile one is personified by Chernobog.

Kashchei is depicted as a humanoid idol painted black with a silver-plated mustache. Sacrifices are made to him before starting important tasks, for example, before going on a military campaign. Victims are often bloody and human, killing prisoners, slaves and horses.

«Kashchei will look at anything — everything withers». «Kashchei for cattle — cattle die, Kashchei for grass — grass dries».

«Let every Slav remember Death in Life and see Life in Death. For Life and Death — are forms of existence, two poles of one magnet, that do not exist separately from each other in Nature».
