Kyrgyzstan Blood Donor Day (25/09)

Blood Donor Day in Kyrgyzstan (Kyrgyzstandin kan kunu donor) is celebrated on the last Sunday of September.

Established by Decree of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic № 599 of October 15, 1997, in order to further develop the donor movement, raise the prestige of blood donors, educate young people in the traditions of humanism and respect for each other.

After all, blood donation is an integral part of the provision of medical care in the name of preserving the lives of patients and victims of accidents, natural disasters, disasters, military operations and other emergency situations. Therefore, transfusions of blood and its products save many human lives every year.

But over the past 25 years, blood donation in Kyrgyzstan has experienced a significant decline for a number of reasons: due to the cessation of propaganda for blood donation in the media and the population’s fear of contracting AIDS. According to WHO standards, there should be 40 donors per 1 thousand population. In Kyrgyzstan, there are only 6 donors per 1 thousand population.

In February 1996, the badge of the Honorary Donor of the Republic was established, which is awarded annually to donors in Kyrgyzstan on this day. Today there are more than three thousand Honorary Donors in the Republic. And work to develop the donor movement is ongoing in the Republic.
