Baku Metro Workers' Day (08/11)

Every year on November 8, Azerbaijan celebrates the professional holiday — Baku Metro Workers Day. It was established in accordance with the Decree of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev dated October 28, 2006, in connection with the 40th anniversary of the commissioning of the Baku Metro (Azerbaijan). Bakı Metropoliteni).

Being in Baku and not seeing the metro would be a big mistake. The architecture of the stations is very beautiful, they are decorated with taste and including national motifs.

The three most impressive stations are — «Nizami», «Narimanov», «Ganjlik». The last two — column, but not the standard « centipedes». There are almost no typical ones in Baku at all. The most memorable of the Baku stations is — «Nizami». Even if you are not going to use the metro as transport, you should definitely include a visit to the «Nizami» station in your cultural program as a separate item — very beautiful mosaic of pylons on the themes of the work of the classic of Azerbaijani poetry!

It can also be added that most metro stations in Baku were built during the USSR period (for example, «Nizami» was opened in 1979). And, by the way, Baku became the fifth metro in the USSR after Moscow, Leningrad, Kyiv and Tbilisi. Its official opening took place on November 6, 1967.

Currently, the Baku Metro has 27 stations, the total length of the — lines is 40.7 km. It consists of only three lines — «red» (the oldest, it was opened with the commissioning of the metro in 1967), «green» and «violet» (the youngest, its first two stations were opened in April 2016). However, the traffic pattern provides that from one station you can leave in three or four directions. By the way, previously the Baku metro was one of the cheapest metro routes in the world.

In 2010, by order of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the «State program for the 20-year development of the Baku Metro» was approved, according to which during this time the number of stations should be increased to 76, lines to 5, and the total length — to 119 km.

All work to maintain and maintain the activities of the Baku Metro falls on the shoulders of its employees, who daily perform their important professional duties, maintaining a careful schedule of metro trains, cleanliness at stations, safety for passengers, etc. And today, on their professional holiday, they deservedly receive congratulations from management and friends.
