July Revolution — is a common name for the revolutionary coup in Egypt in 1952, which marked the beginning of the national liberation revolution. July 23 in Egypt officially marks the anniversary of the July Revolution (Revolution Day in Egypt), a day that is a national holiday and weekend.

July Revolution (Arabic. ⁇ رة 23 يوليو ) took place in the context of the rise of the national liberation movement of the Arab peoples after World War II and the weakening of the position of British imperialism in the Middle East.

On the night of July 23, 1952, a group of patriotic military members of the secret organization «Free Officers», led by Gamal Abdel Nasser, carried out a revolutionary coup and overthrew the feudal-monarchist regime of King Farouk. On July 26, the deposed monarch abdicated the throne and left the country. Power passed to the Revolution Leadership Council (RRF).

The main support of the young officers who came to power as a result of the military coup was the army, and the main goals of — were the complete national liberation of Egypt and the creation of conditions for its independent development.

The nature and program of the July revolution in Egypt were defined in the «six principles» put forward by Nasser: - liberating the country from colonialism and its agents; - elimination of feudalism; - the destruction of the domination of capital over State power; - establishing social justice; - creation of a national army; - democratizing inner life.

Today is Egypt — a republic where the head of state — president — is also the commander-in-chief of the country's armed forces.
