Saint Vincent de Paul Day in Madagascar (27/09)

Fête de Saint-Vincent de Paul (Feast of Saint Vincent de Paul) — patron saint of Madagascar — is celebrated on the island on September 27.

Saint Vincent de Paul (Saint Vincent de Paul) — is a Catholic saint, founder of the Lazarist Congregation and the Daughters of Charity Congregation. He was born in 1581 into a peasant family. He was ordained by a priest under the age of 20.

Five years later, while traveling by sea, his ship was captured by Moorish pirates, who transported it to Africa and sold it into slavery. He was released in 1607.

When Saint Vincent returned to France, he became a parish priest near Paris. Later he founded the Order of the Sisters of Charity (Filles de la Charité /Daughters of Charity) — these were the first meetings of women who cared for the poor and sick outside the monastery.

Saint Vincent de Paul devoted his entire life to serving the poor. He died on September 27, 1660 in Paris, and was canonized by Pope Clement XII in 1737.

Saint Vincent de Paul is a patron of charitable societies, hospitals and hospital workers, prisoners, volunteers and Madagascar.
