Day of Customs Service Worker of the Republic of Moldova (04/09)

Professional holiday — Customs Service Worker's Day — is celebrated annually by all Moldovan customs officers on September 4. It was established by decree of the country's president in 1995 to commemorate the anniversary of the creation of this department in independent Moldova in 1991.

The history of the customs system of the Republic of Moldova begins immediately after the declaration of independence of the state — on September 4, 1991, from the entry into force of Decree of the President of Moldova №189 of September 3, 1991 «On the subordination of customs institutions on the territory of the Republic of Moldova».

This Decree provided for the transfer of all customs structures located on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, consisting at that time of the customs points of Ungheni, Leuseni and the internal customs of Chisinau, under the leadership of the Government of the Republic.

The Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova is the central administrative body that ensures the economic security of the state, implements customs policy and directly manages customs activities in the Republic of Moldova.

The objectives of the customs service include ensuring, in accordance with international standards, the economic security of the state, trade facilitation in cooperation with civil society and the business community, in order to develop international trade and create a climate favorable for attracting investment.

The mission of the customs service is to implement customs policy in order to ensure the economic security of the state, by ensuring the security of international trade turnover, compliance with customs rules, collecting import and export customs duties, combating customs offenses, developing a professional and transport administration that implements international standards to simplify customs procedures and protection of society, applying customs legislation impartially.

Since October 1994, the Republic of Moldova has become a full member of the World Customs Organization. From the moment of the creation of customs authorities until today, their constant and stable development has been observed, which is reflected in the development of modern technologies used in international practice.
