Every year on September 9, Moldova celebrates the professional holiday — Day of State Security Workers of the Republic.
On this day in 1991, by Decree of the President of the Republic of Moldova № 196, the State Security Committee of the Republic of Moldova was abolished, and on its basis the Ministry of National Security (MNS) was formed. On September 16 of the same year, the Government approved the main functions and structure of the Ministry of National Security, and on April 6, 1992, — Regulations on the Ministry of National Security.
On September 9, 1997, on the occasion of the 6th anniversary of the formation of the Ministry of National Security, today’s professional holiday was established by Decree of the President of the Republic.
In November 1999, the Information and Security Service of the Republic of Moldova was created on the basis of the Ministry of National Security (mold. Serviciul de Informaţii şi Securitate al Republicii Moldova, SIS) — is the main intelligence intelligence service of the Republic. Thus, the process of reorganization of the Ministry of National Security was completed. The Training Center — system for the initial operational training of officers enrolled in operational work was also created and is actively operating.
The priority efforts of security officials were aimed at preventing possible interethnic and social conflicts and subsequent armed clashes, solving problems of promptly and comprehensively informing the President of the Republic, Parliament and the Government about the situation in the country, the emergence of dangerous phenomena and processes, and neutralizing them.
On these and many other issues, information and memos of a more predictive nature were regularly sent to the top leadership of the Republic, which made it possible to take urgent measures and prevent possible anti-state actions.
Some actions aimed at destabilizing the socio-political situation, compromising the measures taken by the leadership of the Republic to peacefully resolve the military conflict, and other problems of a political, interethnic and territorial nature were also prevented and localized.
Today, employees of this structure continue to guard the state interests and security of the Republic.
