Energy — Day is a professional holiday for all workers in industry, covering the generation, transmission and sale of electrical and thermal energy to consumers, which they celebrate on one of the shortest light days of the year — on December 22.
It is difficult to overestimate the importance of the work of power engineers, whose tireless work creates one of the most necessary benefits — heat, which ensures comfort in homes, schools, hospitals, and offices.
The history of this holiday dates back to May 23, 1966, when, by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Power Engineer's Day was established in memory of the day of adoption of the State Plan for the Electrification of Russia (GOELRO). The GOELRO plan was adopted at the VIII All-Russian Congress of Soviets, held on December 22, 1920.
Later, according to the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR № 3018-X dated October 1, 1980 «On holidays and memorable days», as amended by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR № 9724-XI dated November 1, 1988 «On amendments to the legislation of the USSR on holidays and memorable days», Power Engineer's Day in the Soviet Union began to be celebrated on the third Sunday of December.
Currently, it is celebrated again on December 22, but in a number of countries in the post-Soviet space and in some organizations, the date for celebrating Power Engineer's Day has been left on the third Sunday of December.
Energy Day — is a holiday for all those who have ever been involved in the creation and maintenance of energy systems. This is also a holiday for those who remain in the responsible position of energy industry workers today. Finally, Energy Day — is a holiday for everyone for whom the concepts of «heat» and «light» — are not just words, but an entire era.
In recent years, interest in environmentally friendly energy sources (air, solar energy) has increased incredibly, and therefore the potential of the energy industry will increase rapidly.
On December 22, along with Russian energy workers, this professional holiday is celebrated in Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and Ukraine.
According to a good long-standing tradition, the best representatives of the energy industry are celebrated on this day with high awards, certificates of honor and valuable gifts. And of all the holiday wishes, we can note the most important and relevant for today: «Dear energy drinks! Try to ensure that every home, every family always has light and warmth».
