In honor of the 65th anniversary of the creation of Civil Aviation in Moldova and the professional holiday of aviators, Chisinau International Airport held an open day on September 19, 2009. Children and adults who wanted to learn about the airport's activities were able to visit an exhibition of aviation equipment, see the airport and its work from the inside, watch planes take off and land, and see a spectacular air show. In subsequent years, the tradition of celebrating this holiday with aviation shows, entertainment events and exhibitions of aircraft continued.
Hundreds of thousands of passengers use the airport's services every year. Flights are operated by three national and more than ten foreign air carriers to 36 destinations. The largest airline in Moldova is the state-owned company Air Moldova, which accounts for more than half of air traffic.
