Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Bulgaria (25/03)

Annunciation — is a bright holiday associated with the good news of the birth of the Savior. On this day, Archangel Gabriel informed the Virgin Mary that she would give birth to Jesus Christ.

In Bulgaria, the holiday is also called «Blagovets» and is associated with the final arrival of spring (singing migratory birds build their nests, and their songs are heard everywhere). Often the holiday falls in the middle of Easter Lent, and fish dishes are allowed on this day.

Folk beliefs are also associated with the Blagovets holiday. For example, it is a bad omen if you go out in the morning without a coin in your pocket. It is generally accepted that if you have money on this day, then luck will haunt you all year. It is also believed that on this day any wound heals extremely quickly. Therefore, on the Annunciation it is customary to pierce the ears of young girls and young girls.
