All over the world, July 2 is celebrated as UFO Day or Ufologist Day. This holiday is dedicated to those who study phenomena that have no logical explanation and objects to which extraterrestrial origin is attributed. The term «ufology» comes from the abbreviation UFO (Unidentified Flying Object), similar to the Russian UFO — « unidentified flying object».
The choice of date for the international holiday is due to the fact that presumably at the end of June or beginning of July 1947, a strange object fell in the desert near the town of Roswell in the American state of New Mexico. Many are sure that a «-flying plate» with aliens crashed there.
Since US intelligence agencies have classified all the materials in this case, it is now difficult to confirm or refute the hypothesis. However, the event received a wide public response; it was with the «Roswell UFO Incident that the history of ufology began. And the earthlings were divided into two camps: those who believe in the existence of brothers in mind, and those who doubt it.
The scientific community has not yet recognized ufology as a science. However, in many countries of the world there are large organizations and centers of ufological research, where quite authoritative scientists work. Conventionally, ufologists can also be divided into two camps: those who are looking for evidence of an extraterrestrial presence on our planet, and those who are looking for explanations for these mysterious phenomena, trying to expand the boundaries of modern science.

Despite the lack of direct evidence of a UFO crash in Roswell, more than 200 thousand people come to the city every year for the holiday in early July. At this time, a festival is organized here, within the framework of which seminars, lectures, special exhibitions and a costume parade of «alien» are held.
During the festival days in Roswell there is a peak in tourist activity: there are no empty beds left in hotels, souvenirs with alien symbols are sold out. Guests are shown four crash sites of a flying saucer in the vicinity of the city. Overall, the «UFO industry» brings several million dollars in profit to the city's economy every year.
