Ascension of Bahá'u'lláh (29/05)

Bahá'u'lláh left this world at approximately three o'clock in the morning on May 29, 1892. Every year on this night, Bahá'ís get together and say prayers to honor this event with dignity.

When the Bahá'ís say Bahá'u'lláh « has ascended», they do not imply that His bodily shell has flown to heaven. The Bahá'ís believe that scriptural references to «resurrection», «ascension», etc. should be interpreted in a spiritual sense, not in a material sense.

Shoghi Effendi in his book «God passes nearby» as he describes Bahá'u'lláh's last conversation with His believers: « Six days before His death, He, lying in bed next to one of His sons, called to Himself all believers, including several pilgrims gathered in the House, for, as it turned out later, the last meeting with Him. "I am quite pleased with all of you, — affectionately and heartfeltly addressed He to the crowded at the headboard, sobbing people". — You have served and been diligent in your labors. Every morning and every evening you came here. May God help you remain united. May He help you elevate the Work of the Lord of Creation».

Jinab-i-Mirza Ismail, a believer who attended the last meeting with Bahá'u'lláh, writes: «Tears flowed from my eyes, and after I heard these words, I was filled with a feeling of sorrow and sadness. At that moment, Blessed Perfection told me to come closer, and I obeyed. With the scarf that was in His hand, He wiped away the tears on my cheeks. When He did this, the words of Isaiah (25:8): «and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces...» — involuntarily came to my mind» (Quoted from Furutan, Stories about Bahá'u'lláh).

Bahá'u'lláh is buried in a simple but beautiful tomb next to His last residence in Bahji, north of Akka. This tomb — is the holiest place for the Bahá'ís on earth.
