World Wind Day (15/06)

June 15 is World Wind Day.

The initiators of the creation of such an unusual holiday at first glance were the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC). And its goal is to attract public attention (primarily representatives of energy complexes from different countries) to the enormous potential of wind energy.

According to experts, the development of wind energy will help solve a large number of problems not only of an energy, but also of an economic and environmental nature. In particular, active work in this direction could lead to a reduction in the huge amounts that are invested annually in the energy sector. As a result, the problem of limited fossil fuel resources will not be so acute, the world will be able to overcome the crisis of global climate change.

Generating electricity from wind – is a renewable energy source. Obtaining this type of energy consists of converting the kinetic energy of the wind into electrical energy. People began using mills back in the 3rd-2nd centuries BC, and the world's first wind power plant was built in 1890 in Denmark, which has since actively used this type of energy: about 47% of all generated energy in this country comes from wind power plants.

«Behind wind power plants — future!», — say experts. Many countries understand this now. Despite the doubts of skeptics who consider «wind domestication» a futile undertaking, wind power plants (WPPs) today operate successfully in almost 80 countries around the world, and thousands of people are involved in the production of wind energy.

The main leaders in the capacity of commissioned wind turbines at the moment are China, the USA, Germany, Spain and Denmark.

The organizers of Wind Day emphasize that the main objectives of the holiday include getting to know wind energy to the general public. People are shown in practice how wind energy is born. On June 15, thousands of different events are held in many countries around the world, during which excursions to wind stations and meetings with experts are organized for the population, photo exhibitions, lectures and seminars are held on the topic «Wind — alternative energy source».

Wind Day was first celebrated in Europe in 2007. Already in 2009, it acquired world status, and more than 30 countries joined the celebration. Every year their number is growing rapidly. Moreover, each person can celebrate this unusual day on their own: for example, go with friends to fly kites, using free and powerful wind energy for this fun event.
