On April 12, representatives of the scientific community celebrate their professional holiday in Kazakhstan – Day of Science Workers –. It was established by Decree of the President of the Republic № 164 of October 20, 2011.
The date of the celebration was not chosen by chance. This day is associated with the birthday of a person who was at the origins of the organization of scientific activities in Kazakhstan. We are talking about academician K.I. Satpayev – to the first President of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR, who headed it in 1946. This man devoted almost his entire life to science and its development in his native Republic. The celebration of Science Workers' Day in Kazakhstan was timed to coincide with his birthday.
Geologist scientist Kanysh Imantaevich Satpayev (1899–1964) not only became the first President of the Kazakh Academy of Sciences, but actually created it, spending a lot of effort, achieving the development of science through the establishment of branches of the USSR Academy of Sciences and research institutes in Kazakhstan, and ultimately achieved establishment of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR.
And today the activities of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic stand at the center of science in Kazakhstan. The central bodies of the Academy are located in Almaty, and its regional centers and branches – in different cities of the country. The Academy of Sciences builds its activities on a solid basis, the basis for which was the work of many scientists of the Soviet Union.
Modern science in the Republic of Kazakhstan continues to develop. This is given special attention by the state authorities, who openly recognize the fact that without the development of science, the future of the country and people is very uncertain, while concern for its development is the key to the successful development and growth of the well-being of the state and citizens.
Along with the increase in funding for scientific industries from the state, the development of science can be seen in the increase in the number of scientific publications, an increase in the number of international scientific contacts indicating the development of scientific and technical cooperation, joint research, the introduction of new principles of expertise, expanding access to international information resources, intensifying the involvement of universities in the country for scientific activities, etc.
The President of the country identified Kazakhstan’s entry into the 30 developed countries of the world by 2050 as one of the priority tasks of state development. He especially noted the high role of science in the country’s achievement of this goal.
In honor of the holiday, awards and state awards for achievements in the field of science are held annually on April 12. On this day, scientific and practical conferences are held at universities, where young scientists and students have the opportunity to present their inventions and scientific works. The activities of students are encouraged by special scholarships, as well as the organization of internships for them at universities in other countries using the research base of foreign institutes and universities.
Congratulations on this day are heard not only among colleagues at the Academy, institute, university or research institute, but also come from abroad. After all, science not only guards state interests, but also helps solve many global problems of the modern world.
