Since 2013, every second Sunday of September, Family Day has been celebrated in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The idea of establishing this holiday was voiced in 2009, when the country's National Commission, which studies issues on women's affairs and the family and demographic situation, took the initiative to establish Family Day in Kazakhstan and hold it annually on May 15, timed to coincide with the date of the International Day families.
March 1, 2013 President of the country N. Nazarbayev signed a Decree on introducing amendments and additions to the List of professional and other holidays of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This Decree established a new holiday – Family Day in the country, and determined the date of its celebration – every second Sunday of September.
The main goal of the establishment and annual holding of the holiday was the implementation of the national state task of preserving cultural values, traditions, spirituality, educating the younger generation, overcoming demographic problems, as well as problems of a social nature through the institution of family.
The most important role of the family, as one of the most significant social institutions, is beyond doubt. It is the family that is the link between different generations; it is the – first step in the process of socialization of the individual. The future of the state depends on how prosperous the process of becoming children as full and full members of society will be. That is why protecting the institution of family, motherhood, fatherhood and childhood – is one of the most important social tasks of any state.
Particular attention is paid to solving the problems of single-parent, large families, as well as families raising disabled children. Providing material support through the – benefit and payment system is only a small part of what the state and society can do to support the institution of the family. The government programs to support young families are aimed at supporting the birth rate through payments, as well as providing preferential mortgage lending conditions.
Every year Family Day in Kazakhstan is held under a certain motto. On this day, government and public figures, representatives of culture and art, and health authorities take part in the celebration throughout the country. Concerts, exhibitions, lectures and seminars of an educational and training nature, family sports competitions are held, gifts are presented in maternity hospitals, as well as children's hospitals.
