On June 12, Turkmenistan celebrates Science Day. The holiday was established by Decree of the President of Turkmenistan in 2008 and is intended to become one of the ways to popularize science, identify talented scientists, and promote the development of science in the country.
Realizing the importance of the task of maintaining and developing science in the state, the leadership of Turkmenistan strives to ensure the training of its own scientific personnel, improve the quality of youth education, and stimulate scientific activity.
Maintaining and developing science – is a long-term contribution to the future of the country. Without the introduction of new technologies and types of equipment, the successful development of any sector of the economy is impossible.
Among the areas of scientific activity in which scientists of Turkmenistan have made important discoveries, it should be noted such areas as the development of alternative energy sources, the efficient use of hydrocarbon deposits, and the improvement of livestock and livestock farming.
The development of science in Turkmenistan is also facilitated by international cooperation with foreign colleagues, exchange of experience, joint projects in the field of science and technology, internships for young specialists in scientific centers and universities in Japan, Russia, and the European Union. One of the important events in the scientific sphere of Turkmenistan was the opening of the Technology Center at the Academy of Sciences.
The state government stimulates science workers in Turkmenistan in various ways: by allocating significant financial resources to improve the material and technical base of institutes, establishing monthly bonuses for academic degrees and titles. The country has created a special Fund to support young scientists, as well as state programs for the development of natural and exact sciences and the training of researchers.
On the holiday itself, scientific conferences, exhibitions, forums and seminars are held in different cities of the country on the basis of higher educational institutions and research institutes. Realizing that the first stage of scientific activity is education in schools where gifted children can demonstrate their abilities, scientific conferences are also held in educational institutions throughout Turkmenistan.
The celebration of Science Day in Turkmenistan is usually accompanied by the presentation of awards to conference winners and young scientists who have made a discovery in a particular branch of science. The festive events end with a concert.
