Mother's Day in Lithuania (01/05)

Traditionally, on the first Sunday of May, Lithuania celebrates one of the most beautiful holidays — Mother's Day (lit. Motinos diena).

On this May day, residents of the country congratulate and thank their mothers for their kindness, warmth of heart and hands. After all, mother — is the dearest, closest and most important person in everyone’s life.

All events and celebrations on this holiday are dedicated to mothers, all children, regardless of age, congratulate their dear mothers on their «professional» holiday and give them gifts.

It is also traditional for the president of the country to give a congratulatory speech, and on this day award ceremonies are held for mothers-heroines of — women who gave birth, raised and raised 7 or more children.

According to Catholic traditions, solemn services are held in churches on this day. In general, Mother's Day is celebrated cheerfully and solemnly in Lithuania.

The tradition of honoring women mothers exists in almost all countries of the world. Let us remind you that in most European countries, the USA, Canada, China, Japan, Mother's Day is celebrated annually on the second Sunday of May, and in Russia — is celebrated on the last Sunday of November.
