Radio Day (07/05)

May 7th went down in the history of world science and technology as the birthday of radio. It was on this day in 1895, at a meeting of the Russian Physical and Chemical Society, that Russian physicist Alexander Stepanovich Popov made a report and demonstration of the world's first radio receiver, having carried out the first radio communication session. Therefore, today this date is a — holiday for workers in all branches of communications.

In 1945, on May 7, the USSR widely celebrated the 50th anniversary of the invention of radio. In this regard, the government of the country decided to consider this date as the annual Radio Day, which was later approved by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated October 1, 1980 № 3018-X «On holidays and memorable days».

Today Radio Day, a holiday for workers in all branches of communications, is celebrated not only in Russia. In the post-Soviet space, it continues to be celebrated on May 7 also in Belarus, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan.

It seems that just recently the Russian Popov and the Italian Marconi tried to convert electromagnetic vibrations into human speech, and less than a century ago, detector receivers with headphones were perceived as a miracle. But today radio, television, and mobile communications have become natural attributes of human life.

Radio – is not only radiotelephone and radiotelegraph communications, radio broadcasting and television, but also radar and radio astronomy, radio control and many other fields of technology that arose and are successfully developing thanks to the outstanding invention of Alexander Popov. Radio has become the basis for the creation of navigation systems, mobile communications, wireless data exchange networks and the Internet, without which it is impossible to imagine modern life.

The modern information boom — is the result of the work of many generations of scientists, engineers, and — technicians of everyone whom fate connected with the communications industry. Therefore, Radio Day can safely be called a professional holiday for television, radio broadcasting workers, postal workers, signalmen, shortwave workers — radio amateurs. Everyone who promptly informs about the most important events taking place in the country and the world is united on radio waves by human deeds, thoughts and souls.
