Feast of the Nineteenth Day of the Month of Ilm (16/10)

On October 16, according to the Gregorian calendar, the month of Ilm begins, which translated from Arabic means «Knowledge». On this day —, the first day of the month of Ilm according to the nineteen-month Bahá'í calendar — marks the important holiday — the holiday of the Nineteenth day of the month of Ilm.

Each holiday consists of three parts. During the first part, prayers and quotes from the scriptures are read.

Bahá'u'lláh wrote: «Verily, knowledge — is a true treasure for man, it is a — source of glory, generosity, joy, exaltation, fun and happiness. Happy attracted to him, woe to the careless». «Knowledge is the light poured out by God into the heart of everyone He chooses».

Abdul-Baha spoke about knowledge this way: «... all knowledge, if it is associated with love for God, is good and worthy of praise; without love for God, knowledge turns out to be fruitless — truly, it can even lead to madness. Every knowledge, every science is like a tree: if its fruit is love for God, blessed is this tree, but if there is no — it is nothing more than dead wood and is only suitable for fire».

The second part deals with administrative matters, where all those present discuss community affairs.

The third part of the holiday is dedicated to friendly communication and treats. Along with a festive table and conversations, it may include music, performances by artists, games and other entertainment.
