Day of the Road Police of Kazakhstan (23/11)

Kazakhstan Road Police Day — is a professional holiday for all road police officers in the country — is celebrated in the Republic annually on November 23.

Back in 1878, the duties of police officers included the functions of the current traffic police. They were ordered to monitor the condition of roads, bridges, crossings, the integrity of telegraph wires, ensuring safety in winter on roads through rivers, lakes and fields, as well as the safety of boundary signs and the integrity of trees planted along the road, reporting noticed malfunctions to the camp bailiff.

After the October Revolution, more precisely, since 1918, traffic control was carried out by the workers' and peasants' militia. In 1922, «Instructions were approved for a guard policeman on the procedure for using a red rod with a yellow handle», which indicated that they should be used in the case of «detention of auto-motorcycling vehicles and crews».

In November 1934, the Central Road Transport Administration decided to organize the State Automobile Inspectorate (SAI). Until March 1936, the traffic police remained a departmental body, and then became part of the Main Directorate of Workers' and Peasants' Militia. On July 3, 1936, the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR adopted a resolution on the traffic police. This day can rightfully be considered the historical birthday of the Soviet traffic police.

In sovereign Kazakhstan, the first regulation on the State Traffic Inspectorate was approved by a Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan on November 23, 1992. This day is considered the birthday of the traffic police of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

On January 3, 1996, the State Traffic Inspectorate was renamed the Road Police. And this was not just a name change, priorities in work also changed. The primary task of modern traffic police has become maintaining public order, fighting crime, protecting citizens from criminal attacks on the roads, along with ensuring road safety.

C On November 1, 2013, by order of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan, the Road Police (as well as the Patrol Police) was merged with the Administrative Police of the Republic. Service employees (universal police officers) continue their work to ensure the protection of public order and the safety of citizens.
