Thailand Missile Festival (13/05)

The ( Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival ) is a traditional May-June festival held in various provinces of northeast Thailand. Rural residents make giant rockets and launch them into the sky to « provide » with heavy rainfall of rice plantation.

The — rocket festival is the period « steam » before the start of hard field work, so during the festivals colorful parades, large dance performances are held. In May, the missile festival is held in Pkhaya Thaen Park, Yassotkhon ( Phaya Thaen park, Yasothon ).

Launching massive missiles into the sky may not be the best way to ask the gods for rain, but the local residents of Yassotkhon are drawing attention to their crops in this way. Every place in the city becomes very noisy on three festival days.

Today's climate change has led to the surprisingly beautiful part of northeast Thailand experiencing severe drought over the past few years. But not only because of the natural phenomena this festival exists, local residents turned it into something sports.

During the festival, teams launch large rockets into the sky so that they take off as high as possible. Explosive rocket components, cunning structures made of bamboo and gunpowder are quite dangerous. The launch begins with raising the toast and fun of the creators.

Theatrical performances and traditional feast accompany this literally explosive holiday.
